THE FIRST THING THE BLOOD ACHIEVED
When someone is about to die he or she speaks of the deepest things in his or her heart.
Crucially, the night before Jesus’ death, His greatest concern was for unity of His disciples and all those who would believe in Him through their message. (John 17:11, 20).
While Jesus was here on earth, God was pleased to dwell in Him (Col. 1:19, Matt. 3:16-17). He came to be the perfect house of God which has been God’s passion- to dwell with man.
Since Jesus was leaving the earth realm physically, the only dwelling place for His Father will be His body, (the Church). And since He was here to do the Father’s will, He prayed passionately for our unity, (His Body), so that God can continue to dwell in His Body on earth. This is the primary reason for unity of the Body of Christ and not for power to stand against our enemies. As soon as He had shed His blood and died, the first thing that happened was the last thing He earnestly prayed about- spiritual unity of the Jews and Gentiles.
As soon as He died, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51). His blood created access for man to reach God. Through the shed blood, He united the Jews and Gentiles into ONE, breaking down the walls of separation, (Eph. 2:14), and then taking the two in ONE BODY to be reconciled to God. (Eph. 2:16).
This was the first thing accomplished when the blood was shed- unity and reconciliation. The whole world is reconciled to God and the Church of Jesus is united spiritually. The high priest Caiaphas had prophesied that Jesus would have to die to bring the Jews and God’s scattered children worldwide together. (John 11:51-52). It’s after this that salvation of individual souls begins.
The first sign of unity of over three million Jews in Egypt was the blood on their doorposts. They all did the same thing- one mind, one purpose in worship. All Israelites came to unity of purpose as they sprinkled the blood which guaranteed their salvation when God passed over them.
If you have been so proud of your church or denomination and never cared about the Body of Christ, you are trampling on what the blood of Jesus first accomplished.
Though the blood united us spiritually, there is yet the need for the physical manifestation of that unity for the world to see that God sent Jesus. This was Jesus’ prayer in John 17:23. The drive for this physical manifestation of our unity birthed THE JESUS DREAM (TJD).
The blood brings us near God and each other.
“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” (Eph. 2:13).
